American Airlines has unveiled a special centenary aircraft livery as the first visible marker of its 100th anniversary, using a Boeing 737 to kick off celebrations that will continue through 2026.

The commemorative design, debuting later this month, signals the start of a year-long tribute to a century of flight that began with a single mail run in 1926.

“American is proud to be among the small group of airlines that have celebrated 100 years of flight,” said CEO Robert Isom. “There’s no brand in aviation more iconic than American, built on a culture of innovation and forward-thinking. We’re poised to continue that legacy into the next 100 years for our customers and team members.”

The Boeing 737, a cornerstone of American’s domestic and short-haul international network, was selected to carry the centenary livery as a nod to both heritage and modern operations. The design incorporates silver infinity rings near the aft of the aircraft — known as American’s centennial pattern — representing the airline’s forward-looking mindset and the infinite possibilities of the next century of travel.

The special livery is part of a broader visual rollout tied to American’s centenary. Customers will begin seeing a new centenary logo throughout their travel experience, including during online booking, at airports and onboard aircraft. The logo blends American’s existing brand identity with an infinity symbol, devised to reflect the airline’s enduring legacy and long-standing relationship with its customers.

American is also applying a centenary decal (pictured above) to more than 1,500 aircraft across its fleet, ensuring the milestone is visible on every flight. The branding will extend across aa.com, social media channels, inflight entertainment screens and a range of commemorative merchandise, including airplane models featuring the centenary livery.

Throughout 2026, American plans to commemorates its 100-year journey through customer-focused experiences, including limited-time centenary amenity kits, pyjamas and inflight dining offerings.

Travellers and aviation enthusiasts can also explore the airline’s history through a dedicated centenary website, aa.com/american100, which highlights American’s first 100 years, shares team member stories and offers centenary merchandise.
