Melbourne’s Southbank has quietly welcomed Hannah St Hotel, a $150 million design-led property that brings together art, architecture and neighbourhood culture.

Designed by Flack Studio, the 188-room hotel opened late last year on a striking triangular site likened to New York’s Flatiron Building. The project transforms a challenging footprint into a defining architectural statement, reinforcing Melbourne’s reputation for creative, site-responsive design.

Hannah St Hotel General Manager Peter Minatsis said the hotel was conceived as more than a place to stay. “Hannah St Hotel was created to feel connected to its neighbourhood. A place where guests can experience the real Melbourne, not just visit it,” he said.

“From the design to the dining to the small, thoughtful touches in every room, everything has been considered to make people feel welcomed.”

Flack Studio founder David Flack described the property as a hybrid of hospitality and cultural space. “It’s part grand hotel, part underground bar, part cultural clubhouse,” he said. “We’ve created a space that feels lived-in, loved, and full of stories.”

The hotel comprises 188 boutique rooms and suites, each fitted with custom furniture, minibars, Marshall speakers and panoramic skyline views.

Amenities are centred around Level 9, a purpose-designed floor dedicated to wellbeing and connection. Facilities include a 20-metre heated indoor pool, sauna, steam room, fitness studio, co-working spaces and a dedicated podcast room. The hotel also features flexible conference and MICE facilities targeting business travellers and event organisers.

A major hospitality drawcard is the hotel’s partnership with The Mulberry Group, which has launched five venues within the building. Led by Founder Nathan Toleman, the group is responsible for Coupette Corner Bistro & Bar, Hannah St Coffee, Bar Hannah, Carriage Lounge and the rooftop Terrace Lounge.

Toleman said the project reflects a long-held ambition. “With Hannah St, we wanted to capture that same sense of wonder and excitement, but with a Melbourne heartbeat,” he said. “A place that feels alive, authentic, and inclusive — not just for travellers, but for locals too.”

Located within the Queensbridge development and adjacent to the Melbourne Arts Precinct transformation, Hannah St Hotel is now open for reservations.
